Its Official: HIPs are no more. Communities Secretary Eric Pickles and Housing Minister Grant Shapps have announced that with immediate effectm they are suspending the requirement for homeowners to provide a Home Information Pack (HIP) when selling their homes. Long-term critics of HIPs have argued that forcing would be vendors to pay for these packs before putting their property up for sale has had a detrimental effect on the housing market, particularly as the cost can often amount to hundreds of pounds.
In addition to the HIPs announcement, it was revealed that sellers will still need to commission an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) before marketing their property but they will no longer need to have received it in advance.
